Ryan Miller’s executive project experience
KPI Definition & Reporting Reliability
An anonymized operating case on an executive reporting application whose KPI names, filters and aggregations produced conflicting answers. The register describes identifier conventions, arithmetic checks and explicit unavailable states for unsupported values and attribution.

Executive brief
Pin each KPI to its definition and population. Make verification a condition of release.

Project overview
[AI] A KPI name can remain familiar while its population, denominator, source version or meaning changes. The proposed Metric Identity and Release Contract (MIRC) makes that full binding an explicit condition of publication.
Context [HR]
An executive reporting application returned conflicting values, used ambiguous identifiers and displayed unsupported breakdowns. Later access failure prevented fresh validation through the recorded connector.
Objective [PD]
Make each reported KPI reproducible for its declared population and date, and prevent unavailable evidence from being presented as a current result or a causal explanation.
Approach [HR/PD]
The project recorded identifier mappings, scoped checks, arithmetic rules and unavailable states. This case audits their assumptions and proposes a versioned release contract.
Findings [RC/AI]
The reported late-defect correction removes about an 85% overstatement, not an 85% operating improvement. A subgroup-risk explanation contradicts its assumed arithmetic; unmatched scope prevents a definitive risk ordering.
Decision Value [PD]
Test the cost of valid reuse, authorized rebinding, necessary holds and incorrect releases across repeated refreshes. Price information separately from any customer or operating benefit.
Implications [PD]
The reporting owner accepts the KPI meaning; metric owners resolve definition changes; the data steward versions the binding; an independent reviewer verifies release evidence.
Executive Action And Threshold
[PD] Start with a bounded calibration pilot. Release only when identity, scope, denominator, transform and freshness checks pass. Before scaling, establish recruitment feasibility and require the lower confidence bound on resource benefit to exceed matched-horizon cost, with separate false-release and availability guardrails.
Reading the evidence
The report distinguishes historical record [HR], recalculated findings [RC], analytical inference [AI] and proposed design [PD]. These labels describe the evidence supporting each statement about this actual project.
Contribution and evidence
What the record supports.
The analytical finding
A recorded population-risk conclusion fails its own arithmetic: assuming matched nested populations reverses the claimed ordering. Because the source also mixes scope labels, subgroup comparisons must remain unresolved until their lineage is reconciled.
Ryan’s documented contribution
Directed KPI mapping, diagnostic hypotheses and release rules. Provisional registry hoop support; source ownership and app implementation remained external.
