Risk, Controls & Governance
Build controls that protect outcomes.
Luna Sol helps leaders make operational controls auditable, executable and proportionate to risk. We connect policy intent to the evidence, decision rights and escalation paths required in daily work.

WHAT WE DO
Connect the business problem to an executable response.
A recorded event is not the same as a functioning control. Coverage can rise while failures remain outside the control's reach; a status change can improve a report while leaving the physical problem unresolved. We examine what each control observes, what it can prevent and what remains exposed.
The work focuses on operational governance: workflow controls, chain of custody, exception handling, pilot readiness and ownership. Specialist legal, regulatory and security determinations remain with the appropriate qualified owners. The operating design makes those dependencies explicit.
Control effectiveness
Map risk events to preventive and detective controls. Distinguish coverage, compliance and actual protection, including failure modes the current evidence cannot reveal.
TYPICAL OUTPUTS
Control map, evidence requirements and exposure assessment
Workflow integrity & auditability
Clarify event sequence, status definitions and custody changes. Establish which records can support an operational decision and where physical verification is required.
TYPICAL OUTPUTS
Event taxonomy, validation rules and audit trail requirements
Exception & pilot governance
Define who can authorize a deviation, what evidence is required and when a pilot must stop or escalate. Connect release decisions to observable acceptance criteria.
TYPICAL OUTPUTS
Decision-rights matrix, exception protocol and pilot gates
OUR APPROACH
Diagnose precisely. Design for use. Verify what changes.
A practical sequence, adapted to the operating question and the evidence available.
01
Define the exposure
Identify the outcome at risk, affected population and path by which a failure can occur. Specify the control's intended reach.
02
Trace the control mechanism
Follow the event, record, decision and action. Identify missing evidence, bypass paths and ownership gaps.
03
Challenge the design
Test plausible exceptions and failure scenarios. Assess false assurance, added workload and the ability to detect a control that stops working.
04
Establish assurance & escalation
Set verification routines, acceptance gates and accountable owners. Report residual exposure separately from control activity.
EXECUTIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE
The work behind the approach.
These cases document real work Ryan Miller performed at Amazon in prior executive roles. Each report describes the operating challenge, his contribution and the evidence supporting its conclusions.
6 executive project cases

Control Coverage & Customer Protection
An operating-project case assessing the coverage of an automated missing-package control: distinguishing recorded scan evidence from protected customer outcomes, testing scorecard effects and reconciling competing financial claims before recognizing value.

Custody Declarations & Auditability
An operating-project case on a package-loss investigation that corrected its own headline figures and exposed gaps in declaration evidence. It connects event capture, physical verification, control workload and the test required before claiming recovered value.

Exception Controls & Pilot Governance
An operating-project case on tiered permissions for bulk status changes, a limited pilot and its conflicting performance reports. The analysis links control specifications, actual exposure, service recovery and the evidence required for expansion.

Process Sequence & Control Integrity
An operating-project case on scan-integrity detection and process redesign: reconstructing changing rules, separating login attribution from physical handling, and defining a safe replacement workflow before claiming prevention or taking consequential action.

Scan Integrity & Outcome Verification
An operating-project case on disputed return attribution in a contracted delivery network: auditing nested opportunity estimates, testing scan-data readiness and defining an authorized response that can be evaluated against physical customer outcomes.

Status Governance & Service Continuity
An operating-project case on removing self-service status overrides, separating approval from execution and protecting legitimate exception recovery. The analysis tests what declining approvals establish and how to measure the customer and resource consequences.
